Domino - (Dainoak Amor Vincit Omnia, Res World Champion) The gorgeous Domino, matriarch of the Dainoak family, was lost to bloat aged 12 in September 2009. We are devastated to have lost her in such a way, she died in Kris arms at the Vet. Domino will be remembered by the whole family in many ways, we all miss her terribly, but her memory lives on in her kids (Thor, Dizzy) and her grandkids (Hagar, Vinnie, Venus, Summer). Domino had a special place in all of our hearts, she was a truly 'cool' dog, but had her place within the Dainoak family, and kept the show side up by acheiving Reserve World Champion in her younger days, and beat her Dad Champion Dainoak Veni Vidi Vici for Best Harlequin in 2000. Domino was the product of an accidental mating, hence her name - which means 'Love Conquers All' in Latin.
Thor - (Dainoak Divide Et Empera)
Thor is the calmest, softest, cuddliest Great Dane in the entire world! As a show dog he did us proud, winning many awards as a youngster and then he had a few years off, before Rhodri decided he wanted to show him. Rhodri and Thor won Reserve Top Harlequin in 2008, and were in contention for Top Veteran but Thor decided he didn't like showing any more so has been retired. However, he does love Agility (yes AGILITY)! Rhodri and Thor are on the Display Team for Aberporth, and Thor is happy completing all of the equipment including the tunnels - which is a great favourite of his - despite the fact it takes a long time as the 'bulge' going through the tunnel is reminiscent of a tennis ball being squeezed down a sock!
Thor has also proved his worth in terms of breeding, and has produced some fabulous litters of puppies over the yesars, and was Top Stud dog 2007. However, he is quite happy to leave all of the stud work to Hagar now, and enjoy his retirement.
Dizzy - (Dainoak Que Sera Sera)
Dizzy whizz is Thor's sister. As a puppy she was so accident prone I couldn't possibly sell her (hence her name- which means 'whatever will be, will be'!), so she has stayed with us for the duration. Dizzy is a gentle and loving character, and such a good Mum - even to our Spinone Cesca (pronounced 'Cheska - as in shortened form of Francesca). Cesca arrived to live with us at the time when Dizzty had puppies, and was accidentally let into the room with her. Dizzy sniffed her, washed her and then suckled her along with her own brood of puppies and literally 'adopted' her, so Cesca considers Dizz to be her 'Mum' now, they are inseparable! Dizzy is the cuddliest Dane, she loves to wrap herself round you and give you a hug.
Taro - (Dainoak Designer Porsche)
Taro is our gorgeous black 'Levi' (Dainoak Designer Genes) daughter. Taro is loving, and great fun and a real character. Another very fast girl when out playing - she is a 'blurr' that runs past at great speeds. Unfortunately, despite what would appear to be an aptitude for Agility, she doesn't like it - she is a a 'home girl' and just loves us her family, any of our friends and visitors, and is a great one for big cuddles. Taro is a fantastic mother, having had 1 litter of puppies. I hope to have a litter to a blue dog out of her in 2010, after which Taro will retire.
Blush - (Nomanland Forest Blush Dainoak)
Blush is a beautiful Blue girl, and came to live with us when she was 2 years old. She is a Levi daughter, out of a lovely Helmlake Mum, and bred by the Barcia family. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond their control, Blush needed to be rehomed, and came to join the Dainoak family. Blush is a real character, and entertains visitors with her party piece, which is hanging tfrom a 6 foot fence by her toe nails (please don't report me for cruelty - she does this for pleasure and doesn't injure herself!). Blush was shown a couple of times, qualifying for Crufts in the biggest class of the day at the Great Dane Club Championship show, and also going Best Blue at Dane of the Year. But then disaster struck - Blush damaged her tail so badly we had to have the end amputated - so now as she is blue - she looks like a Weimaraner on steroids! Blush is very muscular, and has plenty of exercise which she loves. Blush will be mated to a beautiful blue import Dane when she next comes into season, and we hope she will provide us with another Blue bitch for us to keep and show.
Summer - (Stagbatch Sunday's Child)
Summer is a Thor daughter, and is litter sister of Stagbatch Soulmate for Life JW, Top Puppy 23007 and Top Harlequin 2009. Summer hates showing, so she is happy just being a pet and staying at home when the others go to a show. Summer is really funny, as she is such a loving and happy girl - NEVER stops wagging her tail unless she is asleep - and she grins! People who do not know dogs might think she is being nasty as she wrinkles up her lips and grins at you - but it's just Summer showing how happy she is! Summer has just graced us with a wonderful litter of puppies to Hagar, so watch out for the lovely Black boy Axle and Harlie girl Aurora - who will be in the show ring next summer with their respective owners.
Vinnie - (Dainoak In Vino Veritas, JW)
Now Vinnie is another kettle of fish all together, often referred to as ASBO, she is very definite in her own ideas of what she wants, and is very adept at telling us! Thew Vinster is Rhodri's to show, the first Dane he has had from a puppy to train, and to date they have had a fantastic careeer - with Vinnie winning 4 Best Puppy In Breed at Championship shows, and many more at Open level, and having gained her Junior Warrant. Vinnie was a SWGDC Top 12 League Finalist in 2008.
Vinnie is a loving character with everyone she meets, but she has to be the boss over all other dogs so can be a pain, but she is a very loving and gentle girl with people, and loves the showing as a hobby. When she comes in to get ready she stands in the bath for me ready to be made more beautiful - I don't even have to ask her!
Hagar - (Dainoak Vincit Veritas)
Hagar is the apple of Kris's eye - he cannot do any wrong, and is a spoilt brat! No seriously he's not, he is another gentle, loving, sweet natured, generally lovely dog. Hagar started off life as a show dog as a hobby, and won lots of firsts in Championship and Open shows, and was also a SWGDC Top 12 League Finalist 2008 - but after having won a Group at one of the shows, the Judge the following day hurt and frightened him so badly Kris has been unable to show him since. Kris hopes he will be coming out again in 2010.
In the meantime, Hagar is proving in no small way to be an excellent stud dog. He has thrown superb litter s to our own, and other people's girls. With a hip score of 5:5, and from heart tested stock, he is passing on his size, temperament, excellent 'type' and hopefully good health and long life to his puppies. As all Dainoak's - he was bred specifically to improve on these traits.
Venus - (Stagbatch Silent Witness for Dainoak) Venus is a gorgeous girl bred by our good friend Anne Bliss (Stagbatch). Venus is not a show girl, she is just a lovely pet and future/potential 'brood bitch' - who is currently just starting out in agility and thoroughly enjoying it. Venus is a bit on the fat side, and looks like a seal as is fat, black and very glossy, but don't be fooled - she's probably the fastest and bendiest Dane you could ever wish to meet! Venus ha a habit of 'wrapping' herself around you for a cuddle, but she does this usually on her hind legs and often at speed initially. She is a real character, with an over developed sense of humour - and we love her to bits!
Calon - (Dainoak ab Imo Pectore)
Calon means 'heart' in Welsh, and not only is Calon a big 'love', he was born with a big heart shaped patch on his shoulder - hence the name. Ab Imo Pectore is Latin, from a famous speech from Julius Ceasar - it means 'from the heart'. Calon is owned jointly by Kris and Caroline Jamieson in Ireland, in partnership. Calon is pick of litter from Taro and Hagar, and looks like he will be a big boy when adult! Caroline is going to campaign Calon in Ireland, and Kris will go aover and see them whenever she can get away. alon lives with Caroline, her partner Karl, and other Danes Pixie and Sonja (Thor grandaughter).
Fashi - (Maszenka Moloseum)
Fashi is currently still in Poland getting her Pets Passport sorted, but Caroline and Kris will go and collect her hopefully in November 09, and she is owned in partnership but will be living in Ireland with Caroline. Fashi is heavily marked, but as Harlequin markings are random she is likely to produce well marked puppies to the right dog - which is likely to be Hagar for the first litter. Maz will be shown in Ireland where she will be campaigned, and possibly in Europe too, we'll see where we go from there. Maz comes from the world famous Moloseum kennels, her sire is a well known and respected German Champion, and her mother is a multi-country Champion.
Muller - (Elderberry's Now's Perfect for Dainoak) Muller is our gorgeous new Blue boy, destined to be a pet first and foremost, but show dog and Stud dog once all of his health checks have been completed as an adult. He is with our good friends Dany zevens and Heike Schroder in Germany until he has completed his Pets Passport. When I went to Germany to pick which of the wonderful puppies we were having, he was the 'one'. Muller's character and cheeky nature totally appealed to me, and I think in his own way he chose me - that was it - love at first sight! Muller will be joining us hopefully in early 2010. Muller has been bred from Danes with sweet tempermanents, good health and long lives - so again we hope to further improve our own breeding lines incorprating this. The only difficult thing is the waiting until he can join us!
